What’s a moment when a stranger completely restored your faith in people?
The Kindness of Strangers
There is something strangely beautiful about strangers.
.
In a crowded place, when you’re struggling to find your way, somehow a hand appears.
While travelling, when your bag feels too heavy, someone quietly helps.
When you stumble, someone you have never met reaches out before you even ask.
.
They don’t know your name.
They don’t know your story.
They don’t owe you anything.
And yet, they help.
.
Sometimes, a stranger gives you a seat. Sometimes, they hold a door open. Sometimes, they simply notice that you are having a difficult moment and make it a little easier.
.
Perhaps that is why I have always felt that strangers are not really strangers. They are just people whose paths cross ours, sometimes unexpectedly, sometimes for only a few minutes.
.
And sometimes, those few minutes become years.
I have met so many people who were complete strangers when our paths first crossed. A chance meeting, an unexpected conversation, a simple introduction and somehow, without us even realising it, a beautiful friendship began.
.
Some of those strangers became very good friends.
And some are still my best friends today.
Isn’t that beautiful?
.
People who once knew nothing about us slowly become the ones who know our stories, our silences, our silly jokes and our little quirks. They become the people we call when we have something exciting to share, or when life feels a little too much.
.
And then there are those who once claimed to be our people.
.
That is where the real hurt lives.
.
Not in the stranger who walked away without knowing you, but in the person who knew you, promised to stay, and still chose to let you down.
.
And then there are the strangers who were once familiar.
.
People who once knew our stories, our silences, our little habits… and somehow, with time, became strangers again.
.
Perhaps that is the hardest kind of stranger—the one whose name you still remember, but whose place in your life no longer feels the same.
.
Yet, life has its own strange way of balancing things.
.
A stranger may appear for just a few minutes and leave behind a kindness you remember for years. Another may enter your life unexpectedly and stay long enough to become a friend for life.
.
And someone you once called your own may slowly become a stranger, leaving behind a lesson you never asked for.
.
Maybe that’s okay.
.
Not everyone who enters our lives is meant to stay. Some come to help us, some to teach us, some become friends, and some simply pass by at the right moment with an outstretched hand.
.
And to every stranger who has ever helped me without knowing my name—thank you.
.
You may have forgotten that moment.
I haven’t. 🤍🦋✨
