Authors I would love to have dinner with at a dreamy writers’ dinner under the stars | Nihshabd

Which author would you love to have dinner with?

If I Could Book One Dinner Table…

“Which author would you love to have dinner with?”

Arre… ek? 😳

If I could choose the authors I would love to have dinner with, I honestly wouldn’t know where to begin.

This question is clearly underestimating my literary appetite.

My mind says, “Be sensible. Pick one.”
My heart says, “Excuse me? Why are we choosing when we can invite everyone?” 🤭

Chetan Bhagat, Gulzar sahab, Ruskin Bond, Manav Kaul… I had barely started making a shortlist when my heart quietly cancelled the shortlist.

Because honestly, how do I choose between words that made me laugh, cry, think, remember, heal, or simply stare at the ceiling for ten minutes?

So I have a better plan.

I want a dinner with all the writers I have discovered through WordPress.

Yes, all of them.

And no, a normal dinner table won’t do.

We may need a banquet hall.

Actually… knowing writers, we may need a bigger venue. 😄

Authors I Would Love to Have Dinner With

I can already imagine the evening.

Someone will recite a shayari that will make everyone suddenly very quiet.

Someone will start singing an old Bollywood song, and within five minutes we will all be transported to another era.

Someone will tell a quirky story and have the entire table laughing.

Someone will read a soft little poem that quietly finds its way into our hearts.

Someone will tell us a story from their life, and we’ll forget that we had actually come there to eat.

Someone will take us back to another time with such vivid words that we’ll almost forget which century we’re sitting in.

Someone will speak about faith and spirituality, and for a few peaceful minutes, even our overthinking minds might decide to take a break.

And someone, I am sure, will say something so profound that I’ll spend the next three days thinking about it while doing absolutely unrelated household chores. 🤭

That’s what I love about writers.

They don’t just write stories.

They leave little pieces of themselves in our hearts.

Sometimes a sentence stays.

Sometimes a character stays.

Sometimes a poem appears in our mind at the most unexpected moment.

And sometimes, without even knowing us, a writer says something we desperately needed to hear.

And perhaps that’s why choosing the authors I would love to have dinner with feels almost impossible.

So if I ever get the chance…

I don’t want a fancy restaurant.

I don’t need a celebrity chef.

Give me a long table, good food, endless coffee, a little music, and a sky full of stars.

I want to sit under that starry canopy with the writers whose words have left a mark on my heart.

Let them talk.

Let them laugh.

Let them read.

Let them sing.

Let them tell us their stories.

I’ll probably spend most of the evening listening, smiling, and wondering how incredibly lucky I am to be sitting among so many beautiful minds.

And perhaps, somewhere between dessert and the last cup of coffee, I’ll quietly think—

“These are the people who once lived only in words on my screen… and tonight, they are sitting right here.”

So, which author would I love to have dinner with?

I refuse to choose.

My heart has already booked the whole mehfil.

Now I just need to find a banquet hall big enough.

And maybe a table with a little extra space for all the feelings. ❤️

.

P.S. I haven’t named a single one of you… but yes, I had every one of you in mind while writing this. 🤭 So if you recognise yourself somewhere between the shayari, stories, songs, poems, wisdom and all those little “someone will…” moments… just smile. I’ll pretend I didn’t see you. 😉🦋❤️

May you always find a little magic between the words. ✨

Until the next whispers…

Thank you for this Rajeshwari . For the imagery, the honesty, the refusal to settle for just one name, and for reminding us that sometimes the best conversations happen not in fancy restaurants but under open skies, between stories and silences, with people who speak the language of the heart.

If that dinner ever happens, I hope someone saves me a seat too. 😉

Keep writing, keep feeling, keep inviting us into your world.

Lots of love and a little extra space on that table for you too. ❤️🦋✨

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

You caught the little secret, didn’t you? 😉 And yes, that table definitely has a seat saved for you. In fact, I think I can already imagine the conversations, the laughter, the stories, and those comfortable little silences. Thank you for seeing the heart behind this one. And now I have to ask… did you smile when you realised you might have been one of the “someones” I had in mind? 🤭❤️🦋

After this, choosing one author is clearly not an option. The dinner table may need to be longer than the guest list. 😄

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

The guest list keeps growing, the table is getting longer… 😄 I hope you’ve found your chair before someone else claims it! 😉🪑🦋

Wah! Rajeshwari Wah! You na…you know how to make us feel special now, don’t ya? I’m confirming my availability, please mention the time and location and I’ll be there 😜 I’m not going to eat the whole day in anticipation for the grand dinner. I can’t wait 🤣🤣🤣

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

Hahaha! 😂😂 Please don’t starve yourself in anticipation the guest list is still being finalised, and I’d hate to be blamed for a pre-dinner hunger crisis! 😜🤍 Time and location coming soon… just keep that appetite ready! 🍽️🤣

Wow that’s a great interpretation of this question! It actually opens up how we think about this world and all the different meaning and values everyone brings to the table 😉 😁

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

Thank you! ❤️🤍 I love how you’ve put that the moment we bring different voices and perspectives to the same table, the conversation becomes so much richer. And perhaps that’s why I couldn’t choose just one. 😉 So glad you joined this little conversation… now, which chair would you pick? 😄🪑✨

Great minds think alike!!!!! 🤭 I absolutely love that you also demanded a full feast instead of just one author. Your idea of a starry night ‘mehfil’ with WordPress writers is so heartwarming. Truly a beautiful read.

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

Haha, absolutely! 🤭 One author was never going to be enough! A starry-night mehfil with wonderful writers, endless conversations, laughter, and good food sounds perfect. ✨🤍 glad you loved the idea!🦋

This is such a delightful celebration of the WordPress writing community and the magic of writers. I smiled right from the opening—“Arre… ek?”—because you perfectly captured the impossible task of choosing just one author when so many voices have touched our hearts.

What I loved most is that you turned a simple prompt into something much bigger than a dinner with famous authors. You created a dinner table of connection, friendship, creativity, and shared humanity.

The imagined evening is absolutely charming. I can picture the shayari, the old Bollywood songs, the laughter, the thoughtful conversations, the quiet poems, and that inevitable moment when someone says something profound and we spend the next few days thinking about it! 😄

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

What a beautiful way to put this Verma ji! ❤️🤍 You’ve somehow made the dinner table feel real with the laughter, shayari, old songs, and those little conversations that stay with us long after the evening ends. And yes, that ‘one profound sentence’ that keeps replaying in our heads for days absolutely! 😄 Thank you for sitting at my imaginary table and making it even more special.🦋✨

This is such a beautiful idea, Rajeshwari! ❤️ Why choose one when the whole mehfil can be invited? I’d happily save a seat at that table. 🤭✨

Haha, exactly Maha! 🤭 Why choose one when we can have the whole mehfil? 🤍 And yes, your seat is already saved! 🦋✨

    Good morning, Rajeshwari! ☀️

Such a very beautiful idea 👍 Choosing the whole mehfil instead of just one is a wise choice.

    Have a wonderful Thursday! ☺️

Good morning! ☀️🤭 Sorry for the late reply—by the time I got around to replying, Thursday had already turned into Friday! 😄

Thank you so much! Why choose just one when a whole mehfil of wonderful minds can make the evening magical? ❤️✨ Wishing you a beautiful Friday filled with happy moments! ☺️🦋🌸✨

      1. Aptivi Avatar

Hehe, that’s OK 😄 You’re most welcome, Rajeshwari ☺️💜 A whole mehfil can make the evening indeed magical.

I am definitely that someone who says something so profound that you will end up thinking about it for 3 days while doing unrelated chores; especially bartan saaf karte samay! I just know I am her! 🥹🤓 Entitled much? Nai Nai, just super confident!

Thank you Rajeshwariji for the invite!. Count me in! I am already planning what to wear! Oh yeah!! 🙏🏾😍🥹🤓😊

This is a lovely dedication to all of us who have carved our own skies here on WP. Writing and reading the magic we all put out there everyday. Honouring ourselves, our lives and loves and extending it to everyone our there. Thank you so much for the honour. I am blushing with pride. 🥰🤩

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

Hahaha! 🤭 Then the mehfil is officially incomplete without you! And please, take your time choosing the outfit—we have to look our best while discussing profound things between bites! 😂🤍

But truly, your words touched me Lalitha✨. This little WP world feels so special because of people like you who bring warmth, wisdom, laughter, and a little bit of magic to it. So yes… your seat is reserved! ✨🦋🥰

Apostolic Prayer Against Distractions and Addictions

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, I align my life today with the order of Your divine destiny.
By the authority of the Believer and in the power of the Holy Spirit, I command every voice of distraction targeted at my focus, my vision, and my spiritual assignment to be silenced now!
Every subtle weight, every fleshly urge, and every demonic structure engineered to sap my spiritual authority and consume my time be broken by fire!
I declare total deliverance from every form of addiction, bondage, and unhealthy attachment.
Father, let the fire of Your holiness sweep through my mind, my body, and my desires. Where Satan intended to bring compromise, let the blood of Jesus enforce my liberty today.
I receive divine focus, supernatural discipline, and an unwavering clarity of purpose.
I will not waste seasons; I will not miss my appointed time.
My eyes are fixed on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of my faith.
    In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

  12. vermavkv Avatar

Rajeshwari, what a delightful and heartwarming piece! ❤️ I had a smile on my face from the very first “Arre… ek?” 😄 Your playful refusal to choose just one author makes perfect sense—when words have touched our hearts in so many different ways, choosing only one feels almost unfair!

I especially loved your idea of inviting all the writers you have discovered through WordPress. What begins as a dinner invitation quickly becomes a beautiful celebration of the writing community. I can almost see that enormous table: someone reciting shayari, someone singing an old Bollywood song, someone sharing a hilarious story, another reading a tender poem, and yet another offering a thought that keeps everyone awake long after dessert. ☕📚✨

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

Aww, you’ve made my little imaginary mehfil come alive Verma ji! 🤍 And now I’m wondering—who would actually let us finish dessert before starting another story? 🤭

Thank you for seeing the heart behind the piece so beautifully. Some tables are meant to be crowded, conversations endless, and hearts a little fuller when we leave. ✨🦋❤️

      1. vermavkv Avatar

Haha, I have a feeling dessert would never stand a chance! 🤭 One story would lead to another, someone would suddenly remember a poem, another would start singing, and before we knew it, the coffee would be cold and the dessert forgotten! ☕📖😄

And that is exactly what makes your imaginary mehfil so special. Some gatherings are not really about the food on the table—they are about the stories, laughter, memories, and connections shared around it.

  13. umadasila Avatar

What a beautiful idea! ❤️ I loved how you turned a simple question into an entire literary mehfil. Your description of that long table filled with writers, stories, shayari, songs, laughter and endless conversations is simply magical. And yes, choosing just one author would be almost impossible! 😄 I would happily join this dinner too, especially for the coffee, stories and the conversations that stay with us long after the evening ends. Keep writing and creating such beautiful spaces where words bring people together. ✨🦋❤️

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

Aww, I’m so glad you enjoyed the idea Uma! 🤍 Coffee, stories and those conversations that stay with us long after the evening ends—that’s exactly the kind of mehfil I was imagining. ☕✨

And yes, your seat is reserved! 🤭 Thank you for adding so much warmth to this little imaginary gathering. Maybe someday, this imaginary table will become a real one! 🦋✨

  14. Velvet horizon Avatar

You write it so cutely and mehfil where we can see each other phases, lessons,or emotions by words 💕💕

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

Thank you so much! 🤍 That’s exactly what I love about our little mehfil—through words, we get to know the hearts behind the screens, one story and one emotion at a time. 🦋✨

  15. Girish Mani Avatar

This banquet would be wonderful I guess….with all the authors and famous personalities…..

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

Absolutely! 😄 It would be one unforgettable banquet endless stories, fascinating conversations, and probably a little friendly argument over whose book is the best! 📚✨ What a table that would be! 🤍

  16. Vijay Srivastava Avatar

What a delightful idea, Rajeshwari ji! ❤️ A dinner where writers bring not just their books, but their stories, laughter, silences, and souls to the table. And yes some conversations are far too precious to fit into a shortlist. Beautifully imagined!

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

Thank you so much Vijay ji!🤍 You’ve captured the very heart of that imagined dinner so beautifully. Perhaps the most memorable part wouldn’t be the famous names at the table, but the stories, laughter, and little silences shared between them. What a magical evening that would be! 🌸📚✨

  17. thetravelingtaylorsofficial Avatar
    thetravelingtaylorsofficial

The ‘why choose just one?’ move is the perfect answer to this prompt — a whole table of the writers who’ve made you laugh, think and remember sounds far richer than a single guest. And I love that you’d want their silences and souls at the table too, not just their books.

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

Exactly! 🤍 Why limit a table that can hold so many beautiful minds and stories? Sometimes the conversations, silences, and little moments between the words are what make an evening truly unforgettable. What a table that would be! 📚✨🌸

    Lovely post.
I can understand one thing, you said you can not select one author, poet or whatever to dine with, so it might be that you might be surrounded by authors of your liking on a round table perhaps.

But I feel that it might be the other way round and you might occupy the seat of favorite writer surrounded by your admirers on WordPress.

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

Aww, what a beautiful thought! ❤️ Maybe that round table already exists somewhere, and I’m simply sitting there, pretending not to blush while all my favourite writers and perhaps a few admirers are around me. 😄✨ Thank you for such a lovely perspective! 🦋❤️

I felt this in every word, Rajeshwari. The refusal to choose, the insistence on the banquet hall instead of a table for one 😇 that’s love. That’s seeing people, not just their words. And the P.S.? ‘I hadn’t named a single one of you but yes, I had every one of you in mind’? I’m crying. Because yes, I recognized myself. We all did. You’ve created a space where being truly seen feels like coming home. 🦋❤️

Have you ever tried to be with CHARACTERS of many prominent WRITERS, which still reverberates in common conscience of ours.

…….As some walking in broad day light like Dr. Jekyll with a kind heart while some other walking in night with ruthless heart, emerging from some dark corner like Mr. Hyde (Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde).

…….A traveller who finds refuge in the friendship of a horse, shaken by the dilemma of human destiny, becoming insane, talking horse’s language (Gulliver’s Travels). He faints when his wife embraces him after coming home from a long voyage as he was now unused to the human smell.
…….That reminds me a beautiful creative soul, died untimely, with a psych call to the world; “YE DUNIYA AGAR MIL BHI JAYE TO KYA HAI.”

…….”Animal Farm” of George Orwell is “Cockroach Farm” in our context.
“1984” is quite a reality envisioned in 1948 by this born-Bihari Britisher with a name of Eric Arthur Blair.

Well, there are many, but that would be interesting to imagine, A DAY WITH CHARACTERS”, because books talk with us while good books listen to us too !!

Which CHARACTER/AUTHOR would you prefer with, if they emerge from no where now !!
