My Best Healthy Eating Habits: Nothing Extreme, Just a Little Balance
What are your best healthy eating habits?
If you ask me about my best healthy eating habits, I have to be honest—I am not someone who follows a strict diet, counts every calorie, or survives on salads and green juice. 😄
I enjoy my food.
But over the years, I have learned that healthy eating doesn’t necessarily mean giving up everything you love. For me, it is more about being mindful of what I eat, how much I eat, and keeping a little balance in my everyday life.
These are some simple habits that work for me.
1. Portion Control for Healthy Eating
One of my simplest healthy eating habits is watching my portions.
I don’t believe in completely avoiding foods I enjoy. If I want something tasty, I eat it—but I try not to overeat.
Sometimes the food is so delicious that the mind says, “Just one more serving.” 😂
That’s when I try to remind myself that enjoying food doesn’t mean eating until I can’t move.
Portion control helps me enjoy my favourite foods without making overeating a habit.
2. Mindful Eating Habits
I have realised that sometimes we don’t eat because we are hungry. We eat because we are bored, stressed, emotional, or simply because something delicious happens to be sitting in front of us.
So I try to practise mindful eating.
I pay attention to whether I am actually hungry and try to stop when I feel comfortably full.
Of course, I don’t succeed every single time. I’m human, not a food-counting robot. 😄
But being aware of my eating habits itself makes a difference.
3. Homemade Food and a Balanced Diet
I prefer simple, homemade food most of the time.
It doesn’t have to be fancy or labelled “healthy.” A regular home-cooked meal can be perfectly satisfying.
I try to include vegetables, fruits and other nutritious foods in my meals while keeping things practical.
For me, healthy eating habits are not about making every meal Instagram-worthy. Sometimes a simple homemade meal is all you need.
4. Healthy Eating Without Giving Up Favourite Foods
I don’t follow the idea that eating healthy means never eating samosas, sweets, desserts or anything fried.
If I really want something, I would rather enjoy a reasonable portion than spend the entire day thinking about it.
The key for me is moderation.
A little indulgence doesn’t ruin a healthy lifestyle. Turning every indulgence into a daily habit probably isn’t very helpful either.
So yes, I eat my favourite foods.
I just try not to let the favourite foods take over the entire menu. 😂
5. Hydration Is Part of My Healthy Routine
Hydration is another simple part of my healthy lifestyle.
I try to drink enough water throughout the day instead of waiting until I am extremely thirsty.
Sometimes we are so busy with our everyday routine that even drinking water gets forgotten.
Keeping a bottle nearby is a small reminder to stay hydrated.
And yes, my beloved filter coffee has its own special place in my routine. ☕😄
6. Exercise Goes Along With Healthy Eating
For me, healthy eating and exercise go hand in hand.
I don’t exercise because I want to punish myself for eating something.
I exercise because I want to stay active, maintain my fitness and avoid unnecessary weight gain.
Even simple movement and regular exercise can become an important part of a healthy lifestyle.
I believe consistency matters more than doing something extreme for a few days and then giving up.
7. I Try Not to Eat Just Because Food Is There
This one sounds simple, but it can be surprisingly difficult.
If something is sitting on the dining table, the brain suddenly develops a very convincing argument:
“It’s already there. We might as well finish it.” 😂
I try to ask myself whether I am actually hungry before reaching for something.
This little habit helps me with mindful eating and portion control.
8. No Complicated Diet Rules
I don’t have a long list of forbidden foods.
I don’t want my relationship with food to become stressful.
For me, healthy eating is about balance rather than perfection.
Some days I eat better than others. Some days I may eat something purely because I like it.
And that’s okay.
A sustainable healthy lifestyle should fit into real life—not make you feel like you are constantly failing at a diet.
My Approach to Healthy Eating
So, if I had to sum up my best healthy eating habits, they would be quite simple:
Eat mindfully. Control portions. Stay hydrated. Eat homemade food when possible. Enjoy treats in moderation. Exercise regularly. And don’t turn food into something to feel guilty about.
I am not trying to eat perfectly.
I am simply trying to eat sensibly, stay active and listen to my body.
For me, that’s what healthy eating habits are really about—balance, moderation and consistency rather than perfection.
And if I can have my coffee along the way, even better. ☕😄
