Someday, Maybe: Things I’d Love to See in the Future✨

Daily writing prompt
What’s something you’d love to see in the future, but know you probably won’t live to witness?

Things I’d Love to See in the Future.

Some are serious. Some are silly. A few are probably impossible. But if we’re allowed to dream, we might as well dream generously.

.

The Little Things I’d Love to See in the Future

I’d love to see a password
that works on the first try.

Not the second.
Not after three failed attempts,
an OTP,
a security question,
and a mild identity crisis.

The first try.

I’d love to finish reading
all the books I already own.

A charming fantasy.

Right up there with unicorns,
world peace,
and empty laundry baskets.

I’d love a gadget
that tells me why I walked into a room.

Because the room remembers.

The fan remembers.

The chair remembers.

Only I don’t.

I’d love family gatherings
where nobody asks,
“So, what’s next?”

What’s next is tea.

After that,
more tea.

I thought this was obvious.

I’d love my plants
to stop communicating
through dramatic leaf-dropping performances.

One tiny mistake
and suddenly they’re staging
a botanical protest.

.

The Bigger Dreams I’d Love to See in the Future

I’d love to see a world
where a child’s future
isn’t measured differently
because one is a boy
and the other is a girl.

The same respect.
The same opportunities.
The same sky.

Surely that’s not too much to ask.

I’d love to see people
stop comparing their lives
with everyone else’s.

Half the world’s unhappiness
comes from peeking over fences.

The other half
comes from social media.

I’d love to see the day
when “enough”
finally feels enough.

Not because ambition disappears.

But because gratitude
finally gets a turn to speak.

And then…

.

One Last Impossible Wish

I’d love to witness
the greatest miracle of all.

A perfectly folded fitted bedsheet.

No confusion.

No wrestling match.

No YouTube tutorial.

Just one calm human being
holding a neat rectangle of fabric
and behaving as if this is completely normal.

Will I live long enough
to see all these things?

Probably not.

But then again,
I once believed
I’d stop buying books
when I retired.

So it’s fair to say

my forecasting record
is not particularly impressive.

.

With love,

—Rajeshwari 🧿💕

Rajeshwari, first of all thank you so much for liking my post. I know you are writing about your journey, but your like feels very familiar. You are such a wonderful writer—the way you explain things shows how life can be easy and focused without any errors.

Thank you so much Deepika for your kind words. 😊 I’m touched that my writing feels familiar to you. Life still teaches me new lessons every day, and like everyone else, I learn through plenty of mistakes. In fact, I sometimes feel I’ve probably made more than my fair share of them! 🫣 But every mistake has been a teacher in its own way. I’m simply sharing what I’ve gathered along the journey. 🌷🤍

The folded bedsheet had me in splits! I am glad I am already an expert in that🤓. The plants protesting might need a lil work on my end🥴… Baaki ke liye toh bahut time hai abhi😂😂.

I am usually falling off chairs while reading you…hopefully that stays the same well into my distant future! 🤞🏾

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

A fitted bedsheet expert? Now that’s a skill worthy of admiration! 😄 As for the plants, they seem to enjoy keeping their humans guessing. 🌱😂 And if the chair-tipping laughter survives well into the future, then the future is looking quite promising indeed. 🤍✨

    Dear Rajeshwari Ji,

Wowww… what an absolutely delightful piece of writing! The way you have woven together dreams of the future, human aspirations, and the little ironies of everyday life with such effortless humor and deep sensitivity is truly remarkable.

The passages about a password working on the very first try, a gadget that reminds us why we walked into a room, and a perfectly folded fitted bedsheet brought a smile to my face while also reflecting snippets of my own life.

Yet, beneath this lighthearted humor, you have placed some profound dreams a world where a child’s future is not weighed differently because one is a boy and the other is a girl; a world where self-acceptance replaces constant comparison; and where “enough” finally feels like enough. These aspirations elevate the piece to something far more meaningful.

What impressed me most was how you never allowed idealism to become preachy, nor humor to become superficial. The balance between the two feels completely natural and wonderfully effective.

And yes, if someone ever manages to fold a fitted bedsheet perfectly without a struggle, that achievement may well deserve a place among humanity’s greatest accomplishments! 😄

Heartfelt congratulations on this charming, intelligent, and deeply touching piece of writing. 🌹🙏

    Warm regards,
    Vijay

This was such a joyful and relatable read! 😊
I laughed at the password struggle and the mystery of walking into a room and forgetting why. 😄
But the deeper wishes for equality, kindness, and contentment truly resonated with me. 💕
Your humor carries wisdom so gently.
Thank you for making me smile and think at the same time. 🌸

Thank you so much Maha😊 It makes me happy to know that the passwords, forgotten rooms, and bigger dreams all found a place with you. Your thoughtful words are appreciated more than you know. 🌷💕✨
