Budget Travel Tips: My Advice (That I Don’t Follow) 😂

My Budget Travel Advice That I Don’t Follow – funny travel tips by Nihshabd

What’s your best tip for budget travel?

If you’re looking for budget travel tips, the first rule is simple: plan ahead.

Book your flights or trains well in advance.
Reserve your hotel early, especially if you’re travelling during the holiday season.
Have your itinerary more or less sorted, so you know where you’re going and how you’re getting around.
Compare prices before booking, use public transport wherever practical, and eat at local places instead of spending every meal at a fancy tourist restaurant.

A little planning can save you quite a bit of money.

There. That’s my budget-travel wisdom. 😄

And honestly, it’s all very good advice.

I just don’t follow most of it when I’m actually on holiday. 😂

Budget Travel Tips I Don’t Actually Follow

Because for me, a holiday is supposed to feel like a holiday.

I like having my tickets and hotel booked, obviously. I’m not going to land somewhere and start looking for a room! 😂 But once I’m there, I don’t like my days to be ruled by a rigid itinerary.

I like waking up at my own time, having a long, lazy breakfast and deciding what I feel like doing that day.

And if I have a plan but wake up thinking, “You know what? I’d rather stay in today…”

Plan cancelled.
No guilt.
No regrets.
Blanket on. Back to sleep. 😴😂

I also happen to like good hotels. I’m definitely not from the “the hotel is only for sleeping” school of thought.

If I’m on holiday, I want to enjoy the hotel too. The room, the breakfast, the comfort, the little luxuries… I want all of it. 😄

And food? That is definitely not where I’m looking to make heroic sacrifices. 😂 I love trying local food, street food, exploring local markets and discovering those little places that you won’t necessarily find in a tourist guide.

And yes, I have absolutely no problem indulging in something deliciously unhealthy once in a while. It’s a holiday, not a nutrition conference. 😄

And then there are those trips where we don’t plan at all.

A long weekend comes up, we have a few days free, we look at each other and say, “Let’s go somewhere.”

And off we go in the car.

No advance bookings. No elaborate itinerary. Sometimes not even a proper destination beyond “let’s see where the road takes us.” 😂

And somehow, those spontaneous trips can be just as much fun.

So yes, I can happily tell you how to save money while travelling.

But if you ask me whether I practise what I preach…

Well, let’s just say my budget-travel advice and my actual holiday personality are two completely different people. 😂

For me, a holiday needs full enjoyment, full masti and full relaxation.

Because if I have to rush around following a timetable from breakfast to bedtime…

that sounds suspiciously like work. 😄✈️

And people like me?
We may not always travel by the rulebook, but we certainly know how to enjoy a holiday. 😉

What makes this so relatable is the honesty behind it. Travel is not merely about spending less; it is about spending in a way that adds value to the experience. Planning can save money, but too much planning can sometimes leave no room for discovery, spontaneity, or simply doing nothing.

There is also wisdom in knowing when not to optimize everything. A holiday is one of those rare times when comfort, good food, an unplanned detour, or a slow morning can be worth far more than the money saved by following every rule.

Perhaps the best travel budget is not the one that minimizes expenditure, but the one that maximizes memories without creating financial regret. The real luxury is returning home feeling that you truly lived those days.

This made me smile! I absolutely love the honesty behind “Budget Travel Tips I Don’t Actually Follow.”

I completely agree that travel should not feel like another work assignment. Planning the essentials is sensible, but leaving some room for spontaneity, a lazy morning, delicious local food, a comfortable hotel, and simply following your mood is what makes a holiday memorable.

Great advice, I remember poetry lines of Nida Fazli ji
    किन राहों से दूर है मंज़िल कौन सा रस्ता आसां है
    हम जब थककर रुक जाएंगे
    औरों को समझाएंगे.

I think the best part is knowing what works for you and what does not. A holiday should leave room for changing your mind without feeling guilty about it. That’s a good way to travel.

When we are on holiday, we don’t want to have to worry about money. We find it dreadful having to make sure we get a good deal. That’s no holiday for us.

Love the honesty. My husband absolutely loves to plan every minute of a trip whilst I just want to be on a holiday when I can do what I want whenever I want

You’re right! Best to enjoy your time traveling. Make it feel like a proper vacation! Maybe the prompt should’ve been about how to budget for traveling, not while traveling, because I’d also rather put more money aside and indulge in a good vacation experience than spend that money little by little on something meaningless at home 😅

This hit different. “A holiday needs full enjoyment, full masti, and full relaxation.” That’s it. That’s the whole philosophy. Everyone’s out here optimizing travel when really the best budget is the one where you come home feeling like you actually lived those days. You nailed it. ✈️🧿💕

Yeah, it doesn’t go according to the plan every time, but did we have a good time, that’s what matters….
