Success: 5 Things That Truly Matter in Life | Nihshabd

Success in life and five things that truly matter, illustrated with a woman enjoying a peaceful moment

How do you define success in life?

How Do You Define Success in Life?

Everyone has their own definition of success in life. For some, it’s wealth, fame and professional achievements. For others, it’s a happy family, financial independence or simply getting through Monday without questioning all their life decisions! 😂

For me, success is a combination of five things. And no, getting a million likes on social media isn’t one of them!

1. Inner Peace – An Essential Part of Success

Having peace of mind is priceless. Being able to sleep without replaying yesterday’s arguments or worrying about tomorrow’s disasters is an achievement in itself. Less drama, fewer expectations and more filter coffee. Sounds like a good deal!

2. Freedom to Be Yourself: Success on Your Own Terms

Success is having the freedom to make your own choices, follow your interests and be unapologetically yourself. You don’t have to fit into everyone’s expectations. After all, you’re a human being, not a government-issued form with fixed columns!

3. Contentment Without Losing Ambition

Being grateful for what you have while continuing to dream bigger is a beautiful balance. Enjoy what you have today, but don’t stop exploring what’s possible tomorrow.

4. Balance in Relationships and Responsibilities

Having a career, family, friendships and personal interests without losing yourself in the process. It’s not always easy, especially when life seems to have scheduled every responsibility for the same day!

5. The Courage to Never Give Up

This one is non-negotiable. Life will knock you down, plans will fail, and sometimes even your best efforts will produce absolutely no results. But success is getting up, trying again and refusing to let setbacks write your final story.

My Takeaway

I believe success in life is not about winning every battle or reaching every milestone. It’s about finding happiness in the journey, maintaining your peace, loving your people, pursuing your dreams and never losing the courage to begin again.

And if you can do all this while keeping your sense of humour intact, I’d say you’re doing exceptionally well!

What’s your definition of success?

I really love how you’ve defined success here. ❤️ Especially the part about finding contentment without losing ambition and having the freedom to be yourself. I believe success isn’t just about achieving milestones; it’s also about having the courage to keep dreaming, the freedom to make your own choices, and the peace of mind to enjoy what you’ve built. And yes, never giving up on yourself is perhaps the greatest achievement of all. Beautifully expressed! 💕

A truly profound reflection on success, Rajeshwari ji. 🙏

Success, in its deepest sense, is not merely the art of achieving what we desire; it is the wisdom to understand what is genuinely worth desiring. Wealth may expand our possessions, recognition may enhance our identity, and achievements may establish our place in the world, but none of these, by themselves, can guarantee inner fulfilment.

I particularly appreciate your emphasis on inner peace, personal freedom and contentment without abandoning ambition. There is an important philosophical distinction here: **contentment is not the absence of aspiration, just as ambition is not necessarily the absence of contentment.** One allows us to appreciate the present, while the other gives us the courage to embrace the possibilities of tomorrow.

Perhaps the greatest measure of success is the extent to which we remain masters of our choices rather than prisoners of expectations; how much wisdom we acquire without losing humility, how much we achieve without compromising our values, and how deeply we love without making relationships instruments of our own happiness.

Life does not always reward our efforts with the outcomes we anticipate. Yet, there is a higher form of accomplishment in remaining faithful to one’s principles even when circumstances are unfavourable. For ultimately, **success is not measured only by what we have conquered in the world, but also by what we have overcome within ourselves.**

I would add one final thought: When a person can look back without bitterness, live the present without restlessness, and look towards the future without fear, that person has discovered a dimension of success far greater than worldly applause.

**Success is not simply having a life that others admire; it is cultivating a life that one’s own conscience can embrace with peace.**

A thoughtful and meaningful contribution to a subject that deserves lifelong contemplation.

Rajeshwari, I really enjoyed this! ❤️ I love how you’ve looked at success from a perspective that goes beyond the usual measures of wealth, achievements and recognition.

Your point about contentment without losing ambition particularly resonated with me. I think there’s something beautiful about being grateful for what we have while still allowing ourselves to dream, explore and discover new things.

And the freedom to be yourself without constantly trying to fit into other people’s expectations? Absolutely priceless! 🙌❤️

I’ve come to appreciate that peace of mind, meaningful connections, little everyday joys and the freedom to enjoy life are achievements in their own right.

A lovely reminder that perhaps success isn’t always about getting somewhere, but also about appreciating where we are along the way. Thanks for sharing! 🤗❤️

Love this take Rajeshwari , Inner peace and the courage to start again are the two that hit home for me. Success isn’t winning every battle, it’s staying true to yourself while you keep going.

And getting through Monday without questioning all your life decisions is a solid win too 😄 Thanks for sharing.

Beautifully articulated, Rajeshwari! I particularly resonate with your emphasis on inner peace, contentment and the courage to begin again. I believe success is not merely about what we accumulate or achieve, but also about how peacefully and meaningfully we live our lives. At this stage of life, I would add one more dimension: the freedom to enjoy each day, remain active, pursue our passions and make a positive difference in the lives of others.

    Very rightly presented.
I consider a person to be successful if he remains happy, content and nobody is unhappy because of him. Also if he keeps achieving the modest goals and never loses hope.

What a beautifully written piece, Rajeshwari! 🌟 Your definition of success is refreshingly grounded and relatable—especially the bit about getting through Monday without questioning all your life decisions. 😂

I love how you’ve emphasized inner peace and the freedom to be yourself. In a world that constantly pushes us toward external validation, your reminder that success is about contentment, balance, and the courage to keep going is both timely and timeless. The filter coffee mention? Perfect touch! ☕

If I had to add my own definition, I’d say success is waking up each day knowing you’re being true to yourself, making a positive ripple in someone else’s life, and having the wisdom to laugh at life’s absurdities along the way.

Your takeaway truly resonates—success isn’t about winning every battle; it’s about finding joy in the journey. And keeping that sense of humour? Absolutely non-negotiable! 😊

Thank you for sharing such thoughtful reflections. Looking forward to your next whisper!

Until The Next Whisper, indeed! ✨

I wonder whether our definition of success changes as we grow older. What once seemed essential may eventually lose its importance, while things we barely noticed earlier begin to matter. The person chasing a promotion at 30 may value time with family more at 50. Perhaps success is also knowing when to change our priorities instead of spending a lifetime chasing yesterday’s dreams.
