Useless Facts I Love Sharing: Odd but Interesting

Useless Facts I Love Sharing with funny octopus, music, memory and movie illustrations – Nihshabd.

Somewhere between remembering old Bollywood songs, collecting random information and forgetting why I walked into a room, I’ve realised that my brain has a rather questionable sense of priorities. Useless Facts I Love Sharing is probably one of its favourite specialities. From fascinating animal trivia to unnecessary everyday observations, my mind remembers things with remarkable accuracy. If only this level of dedication extended to remembering where I left my phone!

It remembers things nobody has ever asked me to remember, stores information I will probably never use, and occasionally decides that replaying an embarrassing incident from fifteen years ago is an urgent matter requiring immediate attention.

Ask me to remember something important, though, and suddenly my brain is unavailable. No explanation, no apology, just a complete shutdown.

But that’s the beauty of useless facts. They may not help me become more productive, solve world problems or improve my financial planning, but they certainly make for interesting conversations. And sometimes, that’s more than enough.

So, here are a few random things my brain has decided are worth remembering. Whether I needed to know them is an entirely different question.

Useless Facts I Love Sharing: An Octopus Has Three Hearts!

Let’s start with something genuinely fascinating.

An octopus has three hearts. Two pump blood to its gills, while the third pumps blood to the rest of its body. Interestingly, the heart responsible for circulating blood around the body stops beating when the octopus swims.

Now, that’s an interesting biological arrangement!

Imagine having three hearts. One for handling everyday responsibilities, another for emotional drama and a third reserved for unexpected expenses.

Meanwhile, most of us are trying to manage one heart, one overthinking mind and a never-ending list of things to do.

And apparently, the octopus has blue blood too, thanks to a copper-rich protein called haemocyanin that carries oxygen.

Three hearts, blue blood and eight arms. Some creatures really do come equipped with an impressive survival package.

I’m beginning to think that nature has a rather generous employee benefits policy, and I somehow missed the application deadline.

Funny Facts About Human Memory: My Brain Has Its Own Priorities

Here’s something I find equally fascinating about the human brain.

I can remember the lyrics of a Bollywood song I heard twenty years ago. Every single word, sometimes even the music that played between the lines.

I can also recall an embarrassing conversation from years ago with such extraordinary clarity that I sometimes wonder why my brain hasn’t moved on.

But ask me why I entered a room, and suddenly I’m standing there like a visitor who has forgotten the purpose of their own appointment.

Was I looking for something? Did I come to switch something off? Was there an important task?

Absolutely no clue!

And the funniest part is that the answer usually returns when I’m doing something completely unrelated. Apparently, my brain prefers delayed notifications.

I don’t think my memory is bad. It simply has an unusual filing system. Old song lyrics get permanent storage, embarrassing memories have priority access, and important everyday information is probably sitting somewhere in the spam folder.

Everyday Life Struggles and Random Facts: The Great Streaming Dilemma

We live in an age where entertainment is practically available at our fingertips. Thousands of movies, television shows, documentaries and recommendations are waiting for us.

And what do I do with all these choices?

Spend forty minutes scrolling through streaming platforms, reading descriptions, checking ratings, watching trailers and debating whether something is worth my time.

After conducting what feels like a full-scale research project, I finally choose a movie I’ve already watched!

Not once. Sometimes several times.

I know the storyline, remember the dialogues and can practically predict what happens next. Yet somehow, I find comfort in watching it again.

Meanwhile, my watchlist continues growing like an unattended household to-do list.

Perhaps the problem isn’t the lack of good content. Perhaps it’s the burden of making one more decision after an entire day of making decisions.

At this point, I think streaming platforms should introduce a feature called Choose for Me. No trailers, no recommendations, no endless scrolling. Just press a button and let technology take responsibility for once.

Although, knowing me, I’d probably reject its recommendation and watch my old favourite anyway!

Why I Love Sharing Useless Facts and Random Information

Now, here’s the thing. None of these facts is going to change my life. Knowing that an octopus has three hearts won’t help me remember where I left my phone, and remembering an old movie’s dialogue won’t make choosing tonight’s entertainment any easier.

But that’s precisely what makes useless facts so entertaining.

Sometimes, information doesn’t need to be practical to be interesting. It doesn’t have to solve a problem, teach us a skill or make us sound particularly intelligent. Sometimes, it’s simply fun to know something unusual and pass it along to someone else.

And if it makes someone smile, laugh or respond with, “Why on earth do you know that?”, I’d say the information has served its purpose rather well.

Your Turn: What’s Your Favourite Useless Fact?

Now I’m curious!

What’s one completely random fact you know that has absolutely no practical application in your everyday life?

Perhaps you know something bizarre about animals, remember an unusual historical detail, possess an oddly specific piece of information or have a completely unnecessary talent.

Or maybe your brain, like mine, has an extraordinary ability to remember song lyrics, movie dialogues and embarrassing incidents while conveniently forgetting the reason you walked into a room.

Come on, share your favourite useless fact in the comments. Let’s exchange some information that the world never asked for but which we are clearly very enthusiastic about collecting.

Who knows? We might just discover that between us, we have enough useless knowledge to start a very interesting conversation!

And honestly, I’d rather have a little useless knowledge and a good laugh than take everything in life so seriously. 😂

That’s probably why Useless Facts I Love Sharing has become such an entertaining little habit of mine. And honestly, I’d rather have a little useless knowledge and a good laugh than take everything in life so seriously. 😂

Hi Rajeshwari! 😂 This was such a fun and incredibly relatable read!

Your description of the brain’s “unusual filing system” is spot on. I think we all have permanent storage for 20-year-old Bollywood lyrics and cringe-worthy teenage memories, while the reason we walked into the kitchen gets sent straight to the spam folder. And don’t even get me started on the streaming dilemma—I feel personally attacked by the 40-minute scroll just to end up watching The Office or a movie I’ve seen a dozen times!

Since you asked for a useless fact, here is one my brain has decided to keep in permanent storage: Bananas are botanically berries, but strawberries are not! Also, a group of flamingos is called a “flamboyance.”

Thank you for this wonderful, lighthearted reminder that it’s totally okay to have a brain full of random trivia and old movie dialogues. It makes life a lot more entertaining. Keep the whispers coming! 😂✨

(P.S. I’m with you on the “Choose for Me” feature for streaming platforms—someone needs to take the decision fatigue away!)

Wait! Octopuses have 3 hearts? I didn’t know that. What do they do with 3? Humans have 1 and they are still figuring out what it’s main function is? 😊

Rajeshwari ji, what makes this piece so delightful is that beneath its humour lies a wonderfully perceptive understanding of the human mind. Our memory has its own mysterious way of deciding what deserves to stay and what can conveniently disappear! The lyrics of forgotten songs, little fragments of trivia and even an embarrassing moment from years ago somehow find a permanent home, while the simplest everyday purpose slips away.

I particularly enjoyed your observation about streaming platforms and the comfort of returning to familiar films. Perhaps we do not always seek something new; sometimes, we simply seek the quiet pleasure of revisiting something that already makes us happy.

There is a subtle wisdom in your writing: not everything we collect in life needs to serve a purpose. Some things exist simply to delight us, provoke a smile and make ordinary conversations memorable. After all, knowledge need not always be useful to be beautiful, and laughter is never useless.

A wonderfully refreshing read, Rajeshwari ji. You have turned the delightful quirks of everyday life into a celebration of being human. Keep that beautiful curiosity alive .

Thank you Vijay ji for reading between the lines and finding the little thoughts behind the humour. 🤍 Perhaps life is made of these tiny, seemingly pointless things that quietly stay with us. A forgotten song, a familiar film, a random memory… they may serve no purpose, yet somehow make life a little richer. And isn’t that lovely? Some joys are best left unexplained. 🦋✨

This is absolutely delightful! 😂 I had a good laugh reading this. The comparison between remembering old Bollywood songs perfectly and forgetting why we entered a room is something many of us can relate to. And the octopus having three hearts certainly deserves a place in our collection of fascinating useless facts! I particularly love your humour and the way you turn ordinary everyday experiences into entertaining observations. Perhaps these facts aren’t useless after all—they make conversations lively, bring smiles, and remind us not to take life too seriously. Keep sharing these wonderful random thoughts! 😊
