The Older I Get, the More I Realize…

Somewhere along the way, we all started believing that happiness is always loading…

.

When I get that job.
When I buy that house.
When life finally “settles down.”

.

But here’s the plot twist.

.

The moments that stay with us forever are almost never the expensive ones.

.

They’re the ones nobody planned.

.

That cup of chai that somehow turned into a three-hour conversation.

.

Laughing so hard your stomach hurt and you couldn’t even explain what was funny.

.

A random drive where Google Maps had no idea what was happening.

.

Singing every lyric wrong with people who didn’t care.

.

Getting a text that simply said,
“Reached home?”

.

Or a hug that quietly meant,
“I’ve got you.”

.

Funny, isn’t it?

.

At the time, those moments felt completely ordinary.

.

No perfect lighting.
No filters.
No viral reel.

.

Just people being present.

.

And somehow…

.

those became the memories we keep replaying in our heads years later.

Maybe happiness was never hiding in bigger paychecks or bigger dreams.

.

Maybe it was sitting across the table with a cup of chai.

.

Maybe it was that friend who stayed a little longer.

.

Maybe it was a normal Tuesday that nobody thought to photograph.

.

The older I get, the more I realize…

.

Life doesn’t become meaningful because of the big moments.

.

It becomes meaningful because of hundreds of tiny ones we almost ignored.

.

If life gave you just five minutes to relive one memory… no edits, no rewind, no second chance…

which one would you choose? ❤️

.

Until the next whisper…

Good evening! 😊 Thank you so much. I’m so glad it resonated with you. It really is those little moments that quietly make life beautiful. 💛

A beautifully reflective piece, Rajeshwari. It gently reminds us that life is not measured by the milestones we achieve, but by the quiet moments that shape our hearts without announcing themselves. What we often call “ordinary” is, in truth, the most sacred part of our journey. Years later, it is rarely success that returns to us first it is a familiar voice, a shared cup of chai, an unexpected kindness, or the silent assurance that someone cared. Perhaps the deepest purpose of life is not to collect extraordinary moments, but to awaken to the extraordinary hidden within the ordinary. Thank you for this gentle reminder to cherish the little things before they become our most treasured memories.

Vijay ji, this is one of those comments that deserves to be read more than once. 🤍 You expressed something so beautifully that the ordinary moments we often overlook quietly become the most extraordinary memories we carry within us. It truly is the shared cup of chai, the familiar laughter, the comforting presence of someone who cared, and countless little moments that give life its deepest meaning. Thank you for reading with such sensitivity and for adding your own beautiful perspective. Comments like yours make writing feel like a conversation between hearts rather than just words on a page. Truly grateful. 🦋✨

I don’t know if it’s another trend that’s happening in today’s world…. everyone seems on the age bandwagon…
But I have friends who mostly start their conversation/answers/opinions with “…the older I get…” Since when have people become so age-conscious, of late? C’mon ya, Rajeswari – it’s all in the mind, really. I can’t afford to say that, coz what a 44-year-old should have fulfilled at that age, I haven’t come close…. so at least before I go, I need to get some major green ticks on my list.
We’re not getting older, just wiser. Let’s ignore the little aches and pains… and move on 😂😂😂

😂 “The older I get…” is the new “Once upon a time…” Every story seems to begin there these days! Somewhere along the way, people started collecting birthdays instead of memories. I still refuse to believe my knees have a better memory than I do. 😄 As long as curiosity is alive and the heart is still making ridiculous plans, age is just a number that keeps increasing without our permission.
Now excuse me while I go make another completely unrealistic to-do list… because apparently my optimism is aging much slower than I am! 😜

It’s a difficult question, but we have to decide and choose a path. nice ❤️🦋

True… and sometimes there isn’t a perfect choice, just the one that feels right for our heart at that moment. ❤️🦋

I would choose a Cup of Chai with my friends.

Couldn’t agree more Nusrat, it’s the little moments that become the biggest memories. 🤍

Beautifully expressed. It’s remarkable how life quietly promotes the ordinary into the extraordinary, but only in hindsight. The moments we never thought to preserve are often the ones that become the most precious memories.

If I had five minutes to relive one memory, I doubt it would be a milestone or an achievement. It would probably be an unremarkable day with someone I can no longer be with, when neither of us knew that the ordinary was quietly becoming unforgettable.🙏🏻💛

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

Thank you so much. 🤍That last thought truly touched my heart. We rarely realize we’re living a memory while we’re in it. It’s only later that an ordinary day, a familiar face, or a quiet conversation becomes the moment we’d give anything to revisit. 🦋✨🙏🏻

      1. MMC 2.0 Avatar

You’re so right. It’s only with time that the ordinary reveals how extraordinary it really was.
Thank you for your thoughtful words.🙏🏻💛

Atom is considered most strong. People fear and add destruction also with it while atomic power plants are also there.
Any particular moment when someone touches our heart, any moment of revelation, could be memorable.
There could be a series of such moments that get permanently engraved in our memories.

It is the impact on our hearts that makes any event or moment memorable.

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

Beautifully said. 🤍In the end, it’s never the size of the moment but the depth of its impact on our hearts that makes it unforgettable. Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful perspective. 🌸🦋✨

Rajeshwari, this brought tears to my eyes. It’s so easy to get caught up in the ‘bigger’ things, but you’re right—the tiny moments are the real treasures. My memory would definitely be the random drives with no destination. Thank you for painting such a beautiful picture of what life is really about. Sending love! ❤️

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

Thank you so much Srikanth ji for your lovely words. 🤍 Random drives with no destination sound like the kind of memories that stay with us forever. It’s funny how the simplest moments quietly become the ones our hearts hold onto the longest. Sending love right back to you! 🌸🦋✨

I wonder if memories become precious not because they were extraordinary, but because they quietly preserve a version of us we can never meet again.

If all I have is 5 minutes, I would go back to the ghats of Kashi, sit by gangaji, sing to my Shiva, hopefully catch a glimpse of the sun or the birds as the day wakes up, while my family sits nearby scattered along the same ghat lost in their own little universes. Home or love is rarely about being together doing the same things .. its all about being in the same orbit, doing what we do .. loving what we love. This has been my most significant memory of all time. Repeated over the years but never losing its warmth.

Thank you for refreshing this one for me. Inhave been crying myself hoarse over the years that’s it’s always about the littlest of things…its them we end up missing years later. Sonmany of your works say the same. Hopefully people listen up!! It’s about time they do!

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

Your words touched my heart. 🤍 Kashi has a way of making even the smallest moments feel eternal, doesn’t it? I could almost picture all of you on the ghat, together yet peacefully lost in your own little worlds. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful memory with me. I truly believe it’s those quiet, ordinary moments that become the most extraordinary memories we carry for a lifetime. Sending you a big hug. 🤍
