Growing Older: Nobody Warns You About This Part

Nobody Warns You About This Part of Growing Older – Nihshabd

Nobody Warns You About This Part of Growing Older

Nobody warns you about this part of growing older.

Everyone talks about wrinkles, grey hair, reading glasses and knees that suddenly sound like popcorn when you stand up. 😂

But nobody really tells you about the quiet changes.

Growing older is not just about adding another year to your age. It is about becoming less interested in explaining yourself to people who have already made up their minds.

Growing Older Means You Stop Explaining Yourself

You stop chasing people.

You stop replying instantly just because someone expects you to.

And you definitely stop writing those long explanations beginning with, “I just wanted to clarify…”

Because honestly, who has the energy?

Your Circle Gets Smaller

Your circle becomes smaller too. And surprisingly, you don’t panic about it.

You begin to understand that being surrounded by people doesn’t necessarily mean you are surrounded by friendship. Sometimes one person who genuinely checks on you is worth more than a hundred people who only remember you when they need something.

You also become strangely protective of your peace.

A quiet cup of coffee suddenly feels like an event. ☕
Fresh bedsheets feel luxurious.
Cancelled plans feel like a personal blessing. 😂

Growing Older Makes You Enjoy Your Own Company

And then comes the biggest change—you start enjoying your own company.

You can sit alone, listen to an old song, write, read, stare out of the window and do absolutely nothing productive.

And it feels wonderful.

Perhaps that’s what nobody tells us about growing older.

You don’t necessarily become lonely.

You simply become more selective about who gets your time, your energy and your heart.

You realise that peace is not boring, solitude is not sadness, and saying no doesn’t make you selfish.

Sometimes, growing older simply means finally choosing yourself without feeling guilty about it.

And honestly? Maybe that’s the little gift nobody told us about.

What is one thing growing older has taught you that nobody warned you about? 🦋✨

So beautifully written 😍👏 I can truly understand that feeling of choosing a smaller circle, keeping close only to the people who genuinely love and value you, and choosing your peace over explaining yourself to the wrong people. Sometimes, protecting your peace is the most beautiful form of growth. Thank you for sharing this so honestly and beautifully. 💕✨

Aww thank you so much 🤍 So glad you could relate to it. Sometimes a small circle and a peaceful mind are all we really need. 🦋✨

Rajeshwari ji, growing older seems to teach us that peace is not something we find outside it is something we stop sacrificing within. The shrinking circle, the quiet moments, and the freedom from explaining ourselves are not losses; they are signs that we have finally learned the value of our time, energy, and inner space. Perhaps the real gift of growing older is not becoming someone new, but becoming more at ease with who we already are. 🙏

Thank you so much Vijay ji 🤍 This is beautifully said. I truly feel that with age, we slowly stop trying to please everyone and start valuing our own peace a little more. And honestly, that feels like a beautiful kind of freedom. 🙏🦋✨

That’s a very inspiring piece, Rajeshwari! I agree, sometimes growing older means that we choose ourselves. 👍☺️

Thank you so much 😊🤍 Yes, with age we learn to choose ourselves and value our peace a little more. 🦋✨

This is such a beautiful and poignant reflection, Rajeshwari. You captured the unspoken truths of aging perfectly. The shift from seeking external validation to fiercely protecting our peace is something only experience can teach us. I absolutely relate to cancelled plans feeling like a blessing and the simple joy of a quiet cup of coffee! Thank you for this lovely reminder that choosing ourselves without guilt is a gift, not a flaw. 🦋✨☕

I’m not going to say “growing old is a privilege” in today’s day and age, the facilities may be available but there’s no emotion left. Children are indifferent to their parents, old people are treated as a burden… So that leaves many people who are growing old to themselves and that isn’t very inspiring for us…as we look forward to that phase of life.

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

I completely understand what you’re saying. 🤍 Growing older can be difficult when the warmth and emotional support we hope for aren’t there. I think that’s why, with time, we learn to create our own little space of peace and happiness, while cherishing the people who truly care. 🙏🦋✨

You summarized all the realities of growing older that Nobody warns you about. I only wish you had also explored the question of “why.”

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

That’s a very fair point 😊 I focused more on the changes we notice as we grow older, rather than exploring why they happen. Perhaps it is because life slowly teaches us through experiences, relationships, disappointments and responsibilities what truly deserves our time and energy. Maybe growing older doesn’t automatically make us wiser; it simply gives us enough experiences to understand ourselves and life a little better. 🤍Thank you for making me think about the “why” behind it. 🦋✨

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

That 🤔 makes me wonder what you’re thinking! Maybe there’s a “why” hiding behind all these thoughts. 😊🦋✨

  7. datta Avatar

    Rajeshwari ji,
I beg your pardon if my earlier comment was unclear. What I intended was “why Nobody warns us,” but I realize it was understood as “why these realities exist.” I sincerely apologize for the confusion — my aim was only to highlight the silence around these truths, not to question your thoughtful summary.
    🙏

Growing older always sounded so exciting to me. Maybe because of that chase for peace that everyone promises comes with time.

    1. nihshabdblog Avatar

I feel the same. 😊 Maybe growing older is simply about finding that peace within ourselves. 🦋✨

Very nicely written. Being with self is the best company to have and when one develops this habit, then no chance of ever being lonely. We enjoy everything around when we are happy with ourselves.

That shift from chasing explanation to protecting peace it’s not that you have less energy, it’s that you finally know what it’s worth.

Beautifully expressed, Rajeshwari ji. Growing older seems less about losing things and more about discovering what truly deserves our time, energy, and heart. With maturity, solitude can become peace, and simplicity can become richness. Thank you for sharing this gentle reminder to embrace ourselves with love. 🤍🌿🌹
