Underrated Movies: When Good Cinema Gets Ghosted!

What’s the most underrated movie you’ve ever watched?

Underrated Movies: When Good Cinema Gets Ghosted! 😂🎬

Underrated movies deserve more love than they sometimes get! Have you ever watched a Bollywood film, absolutely loved it, and then discovered that hardly anyone around you has watched it? Meanwhile, a film with enough publicity to launch a space mission is trending everywhere.

Welcome to the world of underrated movies, where good cinema sometimes gets treated like an unread WhatsApp message. Seen by a few, appreciated by fewer, and conveniently forgotten by everyone else. 😂

Apparently, making a good movie is one thing. Convincing the world to watch it is a completely different department.

When Underrated Movies Deserve More Love

Let’s talk about films that deserve a little more appreciation.

Take Masaan. It’s emotional, beautifully told, and explores the complicated business of being human. No unnecessary shouting, no dramatic entry every ten minutes, no character running through an airport because apparently that’s the only way Bollywood can save a relationship.

Just a story that stays with you.

Then there’s Khosla Ka Ghosla, where a family’s property troubles remind us that buying a house is a dream, but dealing with property disputes can become a full-time career. If you’ve ever dealt with paperwork, relatives, or someone who confidently says, “Don’t worry, I’ll handle everything,” you’ll understand the potential for comedy. 😭😂

And honestly, middle-class families deserve their own cinematic universe. We already have enough plot twists at home.

Five Films, Five Different Reasons to Appreciate Them

Some films entertain you. Some make you think. And some leave you wondering why you didn’t watch them earlier.

Qarib Qarib Singlle gives us an unconventional romance with the wonderfully quirky charm of Irrfan Khan. It reminds us that love doesn’t always arrive with perfect timing, perfect people, or a background dancer appearing from behind a tree. Sometimes, it arrives with baggage. Emotional baggage, naturally. The other kind would require additional luggage charges. 😜

Udaan explores dreams, family pressure, and the courage to choose your own path. It’s a powerful reminder that growing up isn’t simply about becoming an adult. Sometimes, it’s about finding the courage to live a life that feels like yours.

And then there’s Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year. A film about honesty and ambition in the corporate world? Now that’s a brave concept. Anyone who has survived office politics knows that sometimes getting through a Monday deserves its own performance award.

These five films—Masaan, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Qarib Qarib Singlle, Udaan, and Rocket Singh—are among my personal picks when discussing movies that deserve more conversations and appreciation.

I’m not saying nobody knows them. I’m saying that a film can receive recognition and still deserve a few more people discovering what makes it special.

Finding Underrated Movies: The Great Streaming Platform Circus

Finding underrated movies worth watching should be easy, shouldn’t it?

You open a streaming platform, settle comfortably on the sofa, and prepare for a relaxing evening.

Twenty minutes later, you’ve browsed twelve categories, watched three trailers, read reviews, rejected several suggestions, and somehow ended up considering a documentary about penguins.

Finally, you rewatch a film you’ve already seen.

    Again.

Because apparently, choosing entertainment has become more exhausting than the actual entertainment.

This is where hidden gem movies can surprise us. Sometimes a friend recommends one. Sometimes you stumble upon it accidentally. And sometimes the thumbnail looks interesting enough to convince you that your evening has potential.

Of course, not every film will suit everyone. One person’s masterpiece is another person’s reason to check the kitchen for snacks halfway through.

We all have different tastes. That’s perfectly fine. What I find amusing is how easily we confuse popularity with quality, as though a movie needs a million fans before we’re allowed to enjoy it.

Please. I would like to retain some independence in my entertainment decisions.

So, What’s the Most Underrated Movie Ever?

    That’s the question, isn’t it?

Is it a film that didn’t earn enough money? One that didn’t receive enough awards? Or one that you loved so much that you still wonder why more people don’t talk about it?

Perhaps the most underrated movie ever isn’t necessarily a film nobody has heard of. Perhaps it’s simply one that deserves more attention than it gets.

And no, I’m not claiming to be the final authority on Bollywood. I have enough responsibilities without appointing myself the Supreme Court of Cinema. 😂

A popular film can be brilliant. A lesser-known film can be brilliant, too. And occasionally, a film can be neither, despite the internet behaving as though we’ve just witnessed a historic event.

The point is to discover stories that entertain us, move us, surprise us, or simply make an ordinary evening a little more interesting.

Surely that’s a better reason to watch a movie than worrying whether everyone else approves of our choice.

    Your Turn, Movie Lovers! 🍿

What’s the most underrated movie you’ve ever watched?

Tell me the name, and more importantly, tell me why you loved it. Was it the story, the acting, the humour, or that inexplicable feeling when a movie just clicks with you?

No spoilers, please. Let others experience the plot twists without receiving a full briefing beforehand.

And if your recommendation lands on my watchlist, please accept responsibility for any chores I subsequently neglect.

The laundry was already waiting. The dishes weren’t going anywhere. But apparently, your movie recommendation has just become my top priority.

Congratulations. You’ve successfully influenced my schedule without even knowing me. 😂🎬

What’s the weirdest movie you’ve ever watched?

The Weirdest Movie I Watched: Within just 15 minutes, and My Brain Said Goodbye! 😂

The weirdest movie I’ve ever watched left me wondering what on earth was going on! 😂 I started watching it because I genuinely liked the heroine’s acting. Fifteen minutes later, my brain was ready to say goodbye!

The story revolves mainly around a newly married couple. An arranged marriage, a husband and wife trying to navigate life together, and a whole lot of behaviour that had me wondering whether I had accidentally entered a parallel universe.

But the plot? The behaviour? The whole atmosphere?

Kuch toh gadbad hai, Daya! 😂

The characters seemed to be operating by a completely different set of rules. Their reactions were bizarre, the situations were strange, and I kept waiting for something to make sense.

Was this experimental cinema? Was there some deeper meaning I wasn’t getting? Or had logic simply decided to take a vacation without informing anyone?

I genuinely couldn’t figure it out.

And before anyone asks, yes, I know that unusual films can be brilliant. I enjoy stories that are different and unpredictable. But there’s a difference between being intrigued by a movie and sitting there thinking, Bhai, yeh chal kya raha hai? 😂

After fifteen minutes, my patience packed its bags and left. I switched it off.

Perhaps the movie gets better later. Perhaps there’s a brilliant explanation waiting in the second half. Unfortunately, my curiosity wasn’t strong enough to survive the first fifteen minutes.

My evening was too precious to spend decoding what felt like a very strange experiment in human behaviour.

Some movies deserve a standing ovation. Others deserve a remote control and an early exit.

This one got the remote control.

Now, Can You Guess the Movie? 🎬

I’m keeping the name a secret. Let’s see who can crack this cinematic mystery!

    Here are your clues:

    • Clue 1: I started watching it because I genuinely like the heroine’s acting.
    • Clue 2: The story revolves mainly around a newly married couple and their rather unusual married life.
    • Clue 3: An arranged marriage, an awkward husband, an unhappy wife, and some seriously bizarre behaviour.
    • Clue 4: Within 15 minutes, I was wondering whether I was watching a movie or witnessing a collective breakdown of logic! 😂

So, can you guess which movie it is?

Drop your answers in the comments. No Googling, please! Let your filmi instincts do the work. 😜

What’s the Weirdest Movie You’ve Ever Watched? 🎬

And tell me, what’s the weirdest movie you’ve ever watched? The one that made you stare at the screen and wonder, “What on earth is happening here?”

I’m waiting to hear your stories. Who knows? Maybe your weirdest movie will make my fifteen-minute experience look perfectly normal!

Special Mention: The featured image is inspired by scenes I came across on social media, which made the dark comedy look interesting. The actual experience? A different story altogether! 😂

Disclaimer: I watched fifteen minutes, so this is my personal experience, not a review of the entire film.

  • Love and Betrayal: Why I Like Maleficent

Love and Betrayal: Why I Like Maleficent

    Daily writing prompt
Have you ever liked a villain more than the hero? Who and why?

Have you ever liked a villain more than the hero?

    Well… I have. 😄

    Maleficent.

And before you start judging my moral compass, let me explain.

I don’t usually have a soft corner for villains. Especially the ones who wake up in the morning and think, “What evil thing can I do today?” No, thank you. 😂

    But Maleficent is different.

    She was a fairy.

And I have had a soft spot for fairies since I was a little girl. I mean, what’s not to love? They have wings to fly, live in magical forests, look impossibly pretty, and seem to have that little bit of magic that makes ordinary life feel… well, less ordinary.

So, naturally, a fairy had my attention. 🧚‍♀️

But Maleficent wasn’t just any fairy.

She was beautiful, powerful and capable of love. She trusted someone and believed in that love.

And then someone decided to teach her the other side of love and betrayal.

    He betrayed her.

    And something inside her changed.

The fairy who once flew freely, loved openly and trusted easily slowly disappeared behind anger, bitterness and those magnificent black wings.

    The magic was still there.

    The love wasn’t.

Or perhaps… she had simply buried it very, very deep.

And isn’t there something terribly unfair about this?

Someone gives you their trust, their love, their whole heart. Someone else betrays that trust, breaks that heart, and walks away.

And then the person who was once so good, so loving, so trusting changes because of that betrayal.

    Suddenly, they are the villain.

But what about the person who betrayed them?

Why do we so easily forget what happened before the transformation? Why is the one who changed after being hurt remembered for what they became, while the one who caused the hurt is rarely blamed for what they did?

We judge the scars, but somehow forget who caused them.

    How unfair is that?

    Which got me thinking…

Isn’t that the scary thing about love and betrayal?

Love can make you do the most ridiculous things. You trust someone completely. You hand them the softest, most vulnerable parts of yourself and think, “Here. Take care of this.”

And then, if they betray that trust, the same love can turn into anger so powerful that you don’t even recognise yourself anymore.

Love has the power to create.
Betrayal has the power to destroy.

    And then there was Aurora.

The little girl Maleficent had cursed slowly became the one person who could reach the part of her that she had locked away.

Aurora didn’t see the monster that everyone else feared. She saw the fairy who was still hiding underneath all that anger.

And somehow, the little girl she had cursed brought back the one thing Maleficent thought she had lost forever—her ability to love.

The curse meant for Aurora became an unexpected kind of healing for Maleficent herself.

And perhaps that’s why I don’t see her as just a villain.

I see a fairy who loved, trusted, got hurt, became bitter… and then, slowly, found her way back to love.

Maybe that’s what makes a character memorable.

Not that they are good or bad.

But that somewhere between the two, we can recognise a little bit of ourselves.

Because most of us have known love.

And most of us have known what betrayal feels like.

Thankfully, none of us grew horns afterwards. 😄🦋

    Or did we?
