What’s one thing I own that holds deep sentimental value? Honestly, I own so many things that I should probably open a museum. 😂
Old photographs, greeting cards, random gifts, things my kids made when they were little, and things I bought years ago for reasons I can no longer remember.
Apparently, I have a serious problem with throwing things away. Not because I’m a hoarder, but because my brain has a very dramatic relationship with memories.
Every object has a story.
That old birthday card? Someone took the time to write it.
That faded photograph? Everyone looked younger, including me. Especially me. 😂
That little handmade gift from my child? It may look like a questionable piece of art, but it’s priceless. Even if I have absolutely no idea what it is supposed to be.
And don’t even get me started on old photographs. One look, and suddenly I’m travelling twenty years back in time. I remember the clothes, the people, the conversations, and sometimes even what I ate that day.
The sentimental value of these things is not in their price tag. It’s in the memories they carry.
Of course, there’s a downside.
When you decide to declutter, you pick up one object, stare at it for five minutes, remember an entire chapter of your life, and put it right back.
Congratulations! You have successfully decluttered nothing. 😂
But honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
The Sentimental Value of Things We Can’t Throw Away
Some things are worth keeping, even if they occupy precious cupboard space and occasionally make your family question your storage decisions.
Because one day, when life has moved on and those moments have become memories, these little things will still be there.
And that, to me, is sentimental value.
Some memories deserve more than a place in our minds. They deserve a little space in our cupboards too! 🤍🦋
